I love that song you were playing in your video, what was that? I have always wanted to be able to play guitar like that, but didn’t have the time or perseverance to develop the skill. From your video you certainly have the skill so I look forward to reading your posts for motivation to get back to learning to play the guitar, beyond strumming a few cords.

      Hi! John

Thank you for liking my video! Well, not really a song on its own. They are just blues notes and we call them riffs. If I had a track in the I could play them without getting off key!

I hope I can put a simple video to show how to hold the chords or playing a scale. YouTube has them but most of them are long and complicated for a beginner.

      Once again thanks!

I love the guitar and am always envious when I see someone pick one up and just start playing some classic track with joy written all over their face. I began to learn many years ago but it just seemed too hard. Howeve, the timing may just be right this time and you sound like the man to me .

I’ll be back again soon to check you out

    Thanks mate

Good to learn a bit more about you! This guitar and strings blog is a place I feel right at home at. I dabble in music and have all my life since as a kid I was playing the piano, the violin, and the electric guitar. Music has been a part of every great moment in my life in one way or another.

There is always more to learn of course, so I hope to pick up a lot of new information while navigating your site and the posts you have added to now. I am sure that more are coming, and I look forward to stopping by and checking them out. As I am writing this, I have already checked out a couple of posts. Lots of good information!

Best of luck to you as you build this site out, and I will be back to contribute regularly. I am a muso at heart, although only having a band for a short time as a teenager so long ago. Many of my friends are musos and they are in the business full-time. There are a lot of live bands here in Dubai, and singers and musos come from all over the globe! Goos stuff!

You are in Dubai. I just see videos on YouTube. Very beautiful country. Amazing! I am in Indiana, USA.

Once again thank you for liking my page. I will put some more posts. Hope you will find time to play though everyone seem to be in full time business.

      Regards

It’s awesome to meet you Smart. I’ve come across your website because I want to buy a guitar – not for me but for my husband for our 10th wedding anniversary. It’s top of my list of awesome things to buy him. He loves guitars and he loves playing but unfortunately I know nothing about music or guitars, thankfully I have just over a year to figure this out and to save up for the perfect gift for him.

The only thing I do know is that Slash is his favorite musician – if I could afford to get him a guitar that Slash plays he will die a happy man.

What are your recommendations and where do you think I should start knowing nothing but trying to find the ultimate guitar for him?

Guitar is one of the few instruments I know how to use even though I am not good at it but I still like playing it. I hope to one day become a real expert at playing the guitar because I have taken lessons in the past but kind of stopped halfway. I look forward to learning more about your website and follow you on your journey and also learn one or two tricks on how I can master this instrument.

I am an instrumentalist, I play the keyboard, piano but I have a desire to be playing guitar, I am a beginner, still having problems placing my finger on the strings and fret. Your video is cool and I hope someday I can play like you do. What is the basics in learning to play a guitar and what is chord playing and progression? Thanks.

Wow! It may delight visiting Guitars and Strings. Thanks Smart for the encouragementin here, I really find his concise post really helpful. Am plays piano very well but don’t really know much about guitar but my brother is a pro in playing it, I usually learn little whenever I stay with him during his practice, but I seems not becoming a pro like him so I just tend to stay on playing my piano, but this post of yours had re-ignite the passion in me again for guitar and string instruments. Thanks.

Hi! I just added this to my favorite bookmarks and I’ve checked out the list of the pro guitar players. Thanks for the list.  Music is a part of me. I’ll say its one of the organs in my life that keeps me going. I do a lot lip sync but unfortunately I don’t know how to play any musical instruments, I always feel bed when I see my friends playing their favorite instruments. I’m currently planning to get a guitar. I hoping Strings and Guitar will help me out . Thanks for the amazing post.

Hi Smart! I’m glad I found your site. This is exactly what I need. I learnt to play guitar in high school. But I can only play major and minor accords. I don’t have problem with bars. But that’s almost all I know.

I’d like to pick up a course were I can build up from where I am right now. What do you suggest me to do? Thank you in advance.

Great that you play. Those are the chords you need. You should be able to play the songs you love. Make sure you know the relationship between the major and minor chords.  That way, you can play many songs.

Hello smarties,  the music in the  video is a beautiful one, just like one of those classic cowboy movies . Only if I could play guitar like that ! Your skill is unbelievable for a person who claims not to be at the same level with David Gilmour.

Can I learn guitar playing in a short period of time and play at this level?

Thank you for your kind comments. I am encouraged! It is easy to play the guitar but takes a while to master it. What’s needed is to practice every day so that your fingers are able to move freely on the finger board. i dont mean too fast but freely. The more you practice, the faster you will master the guitar.

Nowadays you have DVD’s or guitar lessons online that if you follow and practice you, will out the trial and error method of learning how to play the guitar.

All in all its the practice that hinders most people not to go to the nest level.  I am still learning!

Reading the review, I remembered my childhood. In that time I listened to Bob Dylan’s songs too much. Even though I can’t play the guitar, its tunes and symphony stirred up my mind. The video looked nice. Thanks a lot for the little but exciting reviews. I request you to write such reviews in the future.
    Best Regards,
    Rgpratap.

This is a great informative and educative article. I love playing the guitar and I always love to see someone playing it. I learnt playing it many years ago but my wife find it too hard, till now I still teach her and yet she is not good at it. Maybe I am doing it wrongly with her. I will try this your ‘’learn how to play a guitar’’ link.
I will be back to tell you again.
    Thanks
